Dr. Zachariah graduated in 1984 and started his surgical career in 1986 at the Christian Medical Colleges in Vellore and Ludhiana. He earned his Master's in General Surgery and was selected to be a faculty member at CMCH Ludhiana, training future surgeons. He trained in laparoscopic surgery in 2002 and later earned his FMAS (Laparoscopic Surgery) fellowship in 2007. He held key positions in various Indian hospitals, including Head of General and Laparoscopic Surgery at CARE Hospital, India, where he established and led the General and Laparoscopic Surgery department for six years. He became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (USA) in 2010. He continued to enrich his qualifications with ATLS certification for Trauma Care (2012), GI Endoscopy training (2013), and a Colorectal Fellowship (2014) under ACRSI. Dr. Zachariah moved to Dubai in 2014, and he has been working for over a decade at Zulekha Hospital Dubai, where he also served as the Head of the Department of General and Laparoscopic Surgery and as the Chairman of the Drugs and Therapeutic Committee.
Dr. Zachariah completed a structured Fellowship in Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery in 2015 under the renowned Prof. Wei-Jei Lee, at the Asia Pacific Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Center (Taiwan). He also earned the cherished 'Outstanding International Bariatric Fellow 2015' award for his exceptional clinical and research work in Taiwan. He is trained in the "hidden scar" technique (reduced ports) in bariatric surgery under Prof. W.J. Lee. Later, in 2022, he also received certified training in Endo-bariatric Surgery (endoscopic sleeve gastrectomy) under Prof. Manuel Galva Neto.
